|To our amazing athletes,
We thank every one of you for your support and patience during this difficult time. We were truly heartbroken to make the decision to cancel Kelowna Apple Triathlon, especially on it’s special 35th anniversary. It is especially tough to hear of how many people traveled from all over Canada to race, watch and support. Our sympathy goes to all the 1,400 athletes who didn’t get to cross the the line on race morning.
As you can imagine, that weekend was hugely difficult for everyone involved — athletes, volunteers, officials, sponsors, staff, supporting businesses, keen fans. Deciding to cancel a race is always rough, and yet, given how dangerous that weekend’s Kelowna air quality was on Saturday and Sunday, it was absolutely the correct and necessary decision.
Our staff have been diligently working to tie up loose ends from the race weekend. We will absolutely offer our 2018 athletes some form of perk for 2019; however, we’re still working out specific details of that. A triathlon event is a major logistical and financial undertaking, and virtually all costs are incurred whether races are run or not. As soon as we can, we’ll provide an email detailing what we can offer our 2018 athletes, and how to redeem that offer once the 2019 race details are confirmed.
We continue to be grateful for those tirelessly fighting wildfires that have engulfed British Columbia in record-breaking ways, and we want to thank all of you for sticking with the Kelowna Apple Triathlon – your involvement is SO appreciated. We wish you all the best for the rest of your season, and want to keenly welcome you back to Kelowna in 2019.

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!
Although the races were cancelled, we had hundreds of volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to the event’s success.
We celebrated all of our volunteer’s hard work at the Laurel Packinghouse last Monday evening. Although the smoke dampened the races, it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of our wonderful volunteer team who look forward to welcoming all athletes back in 2019!
